Class Pictures & Picture Retakes, Wednesday, April 13

On Wednesday, April 13th there will be class pictures taken of all classes at PS 503. All students will receive a class picture free of charge. 

There will also be pictures retakes of students who purchased packages or photos and would like them taken again. 

  • Free photos are not eligible to be retaken. 
  • If you purchased a package of photos and would like them to be re-taken, please send your child to school with the photos you originally received to be returned.  
  • Please communicate via Remind with your child’s teacher that you would like the pictures retaken.

PS 503 Math Family Workshop, Tuesday, 3/22, 2:30pm

We have received feedback from families that they would like to see us return to our informative and interactive family workshops.

NYC School Survey – Please share your feedback about our school by Friday, March 25!

It is that time of year for families to share feedback with our school about our school’s learning environment. Feedback from the survey will be used to reflect and improve schools and programs for the coming school year 2022-2023. Let your voice be heard! 

Families can complete the survey at the following link:

All families received an email on February 18 with information on how to access the survey and how to submit your feedback. Once families submit their NYC Survey, their child will be eligible to enter a lottery for “ time with the teacher.“ 

It is our goal to have as many families as possible submit the survey. We encourage you to please share your feedback with us!

February Break COVID Safety

Home test kits were sent home by Friday, February 18

PS 503 will be closed for midwinter recess from February 21-February 25. We wish everyone a restful, fun and joyful week off! We will welcome everyone back to school on Monday, February 28th

To keep our school communities safe, the DOE  strongly encourages all students to get tested for COVID-19 before returning to school on February 28, regardless of vaccination status.  Your child can test through a PCR, lab-based rapid test, or a home test kit. Your child will come home with two COVID-19 home tests.  Please administer the tests on Saturday February 26th and Sunday February 27th.  Proof of negative results are not required to return to school, but testing is encouraged.

Please see Message to Families from Chancellor Banks for detailed information on how to administer the rapid tests so that we all remain healthy and safe. 

Social Emotional Screener/DESSA Family Workshop, Thursday, February 10, 6pm

PS 503 will be hosting a family workshop on Thursday, February 10, 2022 at 6pm  to support families and answer any questions you may have about how the test was administered and how to interpret your child’s results on the social emotional screener. Bring all of your concerns and questions!

Lunar New Year, February 1 – School Closed

We would like to extend our wishes for a healthy and happy Lunar New Year to all of our families who celebrate! We hope that you enjoy time with your loved ones! We are asking for our community to please share their  Lunar New Year traditions by sending pictures and short video clips to by Wednesday, February 9th. You can also send messages of support/ wishing others a happy new year.  We will be creating a beautiful video to share in classrooms with students. 

Lunar New Year is a special time in our school community. Based on the suggestions of our Asian families we will celebrate as a school community on Friday, February 18, 2022.  Students and staff will wear RED and enjoy fun classroom activities. 

PS 503 January PTA Meeting Updates

We would like to thank all of the families and students who attended the virtual PTA meeting on Wednesday, January 26. We are grateful for your support as we welcomed our new PTA President, Michelle Martinez Bueno. We are appreciative of Crystal Rosario, the previous PTA president for her years of service to our school as she transitions to a new school out of State.

Please see the Principal’s Report with important information that was shared with families. There are some updates to the Covid Frequently Asked Questions document that impact students as we continue to navigate covid positive cases. Please be sure to familiarize yourself with the updates. Our school is working diligently to keep students and staff safe. We are happy to report that our attendance is improving everyday! We value your partnership and hope that you and your family stay safe. 

School Closed – Monday, January 17 – MLK Jr. Day

Monday, January 17, 2022 is a holiday and the school building will be closed in honor of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. It is a day to honor Dr. King’s many accomplishments and his tremendous contribution to the Civil Rights Movement. 

Please make alternative arrangements for your child. 

PS 503 December PTA Meeting, Wednesday, December 15

Thank you to everyone who joined the PTA meeting on December 15. Lots of information was shared with families. We are appreciative of all of your questions and your suggestions as we work together to ensure the safety of students and staff. 

Please see the PTA Principal’s Report for the information that was shared with families regarding many important topics including  student health screenings, our cell phone & iPad policy and Saturday Academy.

Please be sure to review the importance of following the cell phone policy with your child. We have seen an increase of upper grade students using their cell phones during the school day to call or text their families. Please refrain from encouraging students to communicate with you during their  school day. If your child has a situation that needs addressing they should be informing school personnel. We are here to support students throughout the day with whatever they may need. 

Kindergarten Registration for 2022-2023

Children born in 2017 can apply to kindergarten for the 2022-23 school year. The application deadline was Tuesday, January 18, 2022. All families who applied by the deadline will receive a kindergarten offer in April.

PS 503 Virtual Family Night: Pajama Party! Friday, 12/17

On Friday December 17, 2021 PS 503 will be having Pajama Day 2021! Staff and students will wear pajamas and enjoy cozy Pajama Day activities in classrooms.

Families are also invited to wear their pajamas at night for our Virtual Family Pajama Night from 6:00-7:15p! Students and their families can join breakout rooms and participate in fun activities with staff members, classmates and families. Parent Teacher Conferences

Thank you to all families that attended Parent Teacher Conferences! We had a great turn out of families in attendance. If you were not able to attend your child’s scheduled conference, please reach out to your child’s teachers to reschedule at a time that works better for you.

PS 503 COVID-19 Pop-Up Vaccination Site for children 5-11 years old

On Friday November 12, 2021 from 12:30 – 4:00 pm PS 503 will host a pop-up covid-19 vaccination clinic for students ages 5-11.  Vaccinations will be administered within the school building by medical professionals.  If you would like your child to receive the covid-19 vaccination on this day, please call the main office at 718-439-5962 or email to make an appointment.  Appointments are not required, but if you make an appointment you are guaranteed that your child will be vaccinated.

  • Students must be accompanied by an adult (not a PS 503 staff member)
  • If this adult is not the parent/ guardian, you must send the signed consent form with the adult accompanying your child.
  • If you make an appointment for vaccination between 12:30 and 2:20 (dismissal, please come to the PS 503 main entrance to pick up your child.  
  • If you make an appointment between 2:30 and 4:00pm please go to the 60th street entrance as vaccinations will occur in the gym.

Election Day, Tuesday, November 2

On Tuesday, November 2, the school building will be closed for Elections. Teachers will be in meetings and students will learn remotely. Students are expected to complete assignments that are posted in Google Classroom. In order for your child to be marked present, please complete the attendance form that your child’s teacher will share with you via Remind and post in Google Classroom.

Thank you to all of the teachers and families who came to participate in our first ever Hispanic Heritage Virtual Family Night! We were able to learn and share so much about our cultures.  Looking forward to this being a PS 503 tradition!

School Calendar 2021-2022

Curriculum Conferences, Wednesday, October 6, 5-8p

Reminder to please join your child’s teachers on Wednesday, 10/6, for Curriculum Conferences!  It is a wonderful opportunity to meet your child’s teachers and learn about all of the exciting curriculum work and activities the students will be doing during the school year. 

Please see the Curriculum Conferences Fall 2021  with your child’s class and Zoom link to access the curriculum conference. Teachers are offering 3 different time slots for the convenience of family schedules. You can choose which conference works best for your family. 

Students will have the opportunity to enjoy a virtual activity with cluster teachers while their families are with their teachers. They can go to Curriculum Conferences Fall 2021 to access the links for the activities led by cluster teachers. 

We hope you are able to join one of the conferences and that your child joins the fun activities!  We look forward to seeing you from 5:00p-8:00p!

Preparing for School: School Supply Lists and First Week Information

In order to be prepared for the upcoming school year, here is some information and next steps in order to be prepared!

First Day of School Schedule: 8am – 2:10pm  for ALL students Kindergarten – 5th grade

Arrival at 8am:

  • Kindergarten, Grades 1 & 2 in the yard
  • Grade 3 – Parking lot door near the playground
  • Grade 4 & 5 –  59th street door

Dismissal at 2:10p in the school yard for all students. 

Please refer to the menu to know what will be served each day for lunch.

Supply Lists:


At our last PTA meeting, families voted for students K-5 to wear uniforms for the coming school year. The uniform consists of a light blue shirt/ blouse and navy blue pants or skirt. Jeans are acceptable. 

  • Uniforms are worn Monday – Thursday every week.  On Fridays, all students can wear clothing of their choice.

NYC School Survey for Families – Deadline Extended to June 18!

This is a very exciting time as we prepare for end of the year celebrations, transitions, and summer plans.  It is also the time of the year when we ask families to complete the NYC School Survey.  The Survey is an opportunity for families to share their voices and give feedback about our school.  We value your opinion and want to know what your priorities are for your child’s education.  We will use your responses to make improvements in our school for next year.  Please know that all surveys are anonymous and you will need your child’s OSIS number to complete the survey.  This information was emailed to you on May 20th.  If you need support completing the survey, we have families supporting families at arrival.  You can also email for support. 

  • All students whose parents submit a NYC Survey will be eligible for “Time with the Teacher” to do fun remote and in person enrichment activities such as games, dance, music, art, and many more!

At our June PTA Meeting on June 16 at 6pm, we had PTA, SLT and Title I PAC Elections. Here are the results:

PTA Elections:

A grievance was filed against the PTA election at PS 503 held on 6/16/2021. Upon review by District 20 Superintendent and FACE, the grievance filed against the PS 503 election is upheld. 
An expedited election will be held in September. Chancellor’s Regulation A-660 will be followed for this election.

Voting for City and Community Education Councils begins on Saturday, May 1!

For the first time, every parent or guardian of a New York City public school student now has the
opportunity to vote for their Education Council representatives! City and Community Education Councils (CCECs) serve as the voice of our families, offering important advice to the Chancellor and the NYC Department of Education. Voting begins on Saturday, May 1 and ends on Tuesday, May 11.

Grades 3-5 State Test Update: Testing Request Form

  • Open to students in blended learning and remote learning
  • If your child is 100% remote, & you choose to have them take the test, they will need to come to the building to take the test (one day only for each test)
  • If you would like your child to take the tests you will need to complete this request form:  PS 503 State Testing Request Form – complete this form by for each child who you would like to take the exam

Whether your child is in blended learning or remote learning If you do not submit a request by April 15th, your child will not take the tests.
